Under 30x30 in is genuinely tight and difficult to sit comfortably for a full session. 36x36 in is comfortable for most adults. Under 30x30 in is a hard pass for regular use. 120V plug-in models work in any standard North American outlet - no electrician and no permit required. This is critical for apartments, condos, and rentals. 240V models need a dedicated circuit (typically 30-60A) and usually cost $200-600 in electrician fees on top of the unit price. The main variables are heavier models (the Clearlight Sanctuary 1 is 425 lbs) that need two or more people, and whether the electrical connection is a simple plug-in, as on every model here, or a hardwired 240V circuit, which only larger cabins need.
Most 1-person saunas rate 265-300 lbs bench capacity. A small number of budget models rate lower at 220-250 lbs. If your weight approaches the rated capacity, check the spec sheet and not just the Amazon listing title - manufacturers sometimes list maximum capacity in fine print. The bench is typically the limiting structural component.
